SPEAKING

Speaking section comprises of 3 parts with a total duration of maximum 11-14 minutes.Generally this speaking test is scheduled either in the afternoon, or after the IELTS papers,or sometimes after the following day.The speaking test is conducted one-on-one in the examination room, and is digitally recoreded.

STRUCTURE

The structure includes 3 parts of the interview(speaking)test and each part is expalined briefly below.

PART 1:INTRODUCTION

DURATION:4-5 minutes

DESCRIPTION:In this part both Candidate and Interviwer has to Introduce themselves to each other and candidate has to show his/her indentity for conformation.Apart from that the candidates are required to give personal information and answer questions on every day topics,such as family,hobbies and sports.

PART 2:INDIVIDUAL LONG TURN

DURATION:3-4 minutes(Including 1 minute preparation)

DESCRIPTION:Candidate are given a TOPIC drawn from your personal experience and 1 minute to prepare.You have to speak for 2 minutes continuously on that topic.(Examiner will stop you when two minutes are done).

PART 3:TWO-WAY DISCUSSION

DURATION:45 minutes

DESCRIPTION:Examiner generates a Discussion relating to the topic introduced in Part 2. Questions are more abstract in nature. You are expected to provide an extended answer.

SPEAKING SKILLS

The speaking Test assess your ability to communicate effectively in English. The speaking skills, on which you will be assessed include:

1.Production skills,i.e.PRONUNCIATION

2.Communication skills,i.e.FLUENCY AND COHERENCE

3.Language skills,i.e GRAMMATICAL RANGE AND ACCURACY, VOCABULARY

Now these three important skills are briefly explained below.

PRONUNCIATION

Rhythm,Stress,intonation and Sounds

This section mainly looks, How Clearly do you speak?, How easily can the examiner understand you? and how appropriately do you use stress and intonation??.


FLUENCY AND COHERENCE

Speech rate,speech continuity and logical order.

1.How clearly and smoothly do you speak?

2.Do you have to stop or pause often to searh for a word?

3.Do you speak at a normal rate?

4.How well have you linked your ideas?

5.Have you organised your sentences logically?

GRAMMATICAL RANGE AND ACCURACY

Grammatical structure,simple,compound and complex sentences

This section mainly checks,wheather the candidate use a variety of sentence types, including compound and complex sentences,uses a variety of grammatical structures and how accurate the candidate uses the gramatical structures without any error.

VOCABULARY

Word forms,Synonyms,Formal word choices,Collacations,Topic Vocabulary and Idioms

Here the Candidate should have good range of words to discuss the IELTS topic and he should have the knowledge to express the word with accurate meaning.

SPEAKING STRATEGIES

It is important to follow the instructions in the interview.Listen carefully to the questions so that you answer them correctly.
If you did not understand a question or a word,don't be afraid to ask the examiner to repeat the question or expalin a word.

1.Speaks clearly and audibly.

2.Read the bullet points on the prompt card carefully.

3.use a broad range of vocabulary.

4.Use a wide range of grammatical structures and sentences.

5.Remember to extend your answers,especially in the discussion--give examples, an opinion,reason etc.

6.Keep talking--don't worry that you may have made a mistake.

7.Maintain eye contact with the examiner.

8.Be postive and smile.

9.Believe in yourself.
